Character Files as .dat

Question

Hello all, I downloaded a source and client last night that is a 317 made to look like 194. Unfortunately it is saves the character files as a .dat file. When I try to edit it the file with notepad it shows this:

The source/client I am using can be found here: http://www.rune-server.org/runescape-development/rs2-server/downloads/242148-runescape-2-beta-packaged-194-a.html

Does anyone know how to make it regular .txt files so I can edit it?

I actually think a .dat file is more efficient especially for a larger player base, but basically, this is encrypted. You need to basically remove the encrypter it has if you want to edit it. Not only that, you can always edit someone's personal things by making commands for it.

Thanks for the reply man. Do you know how I would go about removing the encrypter or know a tutorial that explains it? Sorry for being such a noob.

To be honest with you, I wouldn't remove it. To change anything, you just need to add a couple commands or something. It's really not difficult, BUT, I'd have to look at your source, it's probably Sha 5 or something. And as always, learning Java is the best way to go. You'll come back into the rsps scene and be ahead of 80% of the community.
