wot
I don't know if we are allowed to mention the other cancerous more popular site but I will refer to it as 'competition' Here is our current layout for the rsps section. Not much traffic, and not very organized for the many revisions in rsps. I believe this causes some confusion to new users and they end up going to competitions website because it's more simple of a design. Now, try creating 6 main categories RuneScape Classic RuneScape 317 RuneScape 508 RuneScape 667+ RSPS Client Hacking (keep that section how it is) RSPS Development Tutorials (This is a special section I want to define for those who actually know a great deal about a programming language or at least a good understanding of the jagex client and can provide insight to new people on where to start if they want to take apart a client and build a server from scratch. I would be happy to populate a section like this with starter topics such as an introduction to java or C# and introduction to a 317 client.) Subcategories in each will be the same Advertisement Configuration/Information Client/Server Market (Buying/Selling) [with tags] Client/Server Services (Buying/Selling) [with tags] Downloads Help Projects/Show-off [Combine into one and separate with tags] Tutorials/Snippets [Snippets will be a sub-section but include in the title so people know where to look] This might look like a little bit of work, especially moving the current topics in the current sections around to fit their new section constraints. I believe that this step will not only simplify the forum and make it a friendly starting point for someone new to rsps, but promote knowledge and growth into the roots of rsps instead of just showing a place where to download a source. It will increase activity to the forums, and overall the site and bring ad revenue for more features and things. I believe we can make runelocus the site where people go if they need help with their rsps, and not just the site they go to advertise.
StevenAbraham
The problem with this layout is that most of these forums would only have like 2-3 threads in it. Plus I find it a lot easier to browse without having everything separated. I like browsing 718 project threads because that what I used to program but every once and a while I find a cool 317 that looks sick af. I wouldn't be able to do this if they were separated. Similarly I wouldn't browse the help forum for 508 servers because to my understanding I wouldn't be able to help anyone, but some noob is probably just posting some stuff about needing help getting connected, in which I can help easily. Otherwise he'd have to wait days for someone to find his thread. Also for services, most programmers can code in any revision so they would need to post a thread in each forum, plus that doesn't include web/gfx/etc services. StevenAbraham
I have a suggestion! Buy this https://invisionpower.com/files/file/7614-advanced-tags-prefixes/ With this plugin you can add prefixes which also function as sub forums and tags. I suggest keeping the forums as they are without adding the separated revision forums, but implement the prefixes for all major revisions. It also allows you to make a tag required so you don't have to worry about people just ignoring the feature. Hear is a few pics to convince you: So the green and purple tags would be the revisions and the forums would stay the same as they are currently. If you click on the tag it will show you all content for that revision and if you click on the forum it will show you all the content in that forum (ie. Advertisements). Once inside you can click a tag and it will show you all the threads for that forum and that revision. Inside the forums it will look something like this except all threads will have a prefix (like the first post in this image). You can color code the prefixes based on revision as well to make it easier for people at a quick glance. $42 bucks may be a bit steep but I think it's a good investment. Plus it comes with a lot of features to renovate the tagging system as well that I didn't even go into. So while the prefix would say the revision and the forum would say what kind of thread it is (ie. showoff thread), the tags could get more specific such as "chat related" or "custom items", etc. If cost is really a big issue i'm sure myself and some others wouldn't mind contributing either. Arix
@StevenAbraham is right, the plugin makes for organization and it also makes the section look more alive (with all the colors) .

I Dds You
I like the plugin idea that was suggested by Steven I do feel it would be better having the categories split though, as people generally like to stick to what they know and not filter through rsps revisions; I myself am one of those people haha
Ziek`
I personally think we have too many subcategories as it is. We used to have separate categories for revisions but due to lack of traffic in some, we decided to just group them together and add tags instead. I do like Steven's suggestion. The forum wouldn't look chaotic with 500000 categories and subcategories, and it would be easier to organize.

They don't have to spend 40$ on it I'll find a free copy later that idea is wonderful. However, I still don't fully support giving up on reorganization of the sections, my only reasons are I don't belive people will always tag their topics, causing topics to be left out when searching for specific tags like if you wanted to see all the 508 servers in the downloads section then you would miss like 3 because the people didn't tag them. Also the fact tagging really doesn't clean up everything that well at first glance of the forums which is the goal of my original post. I do see your point about over-complicating things and too many categories that's why I revised my original thought, let me know what you think: Example of problem: rsps general > projects (1.6k TOPICS) first topic: 317 second topic: osrs third topic: 562 unless you want to manually tag all these it's not very organized when searching for one specific type of server. Hierarchy as follows: Development of RSPS - General - Services (with tagging you mentioned) I agree you can shove everything in here and it would be fine. - Show-off (this can be one category if you want or added below) - Client Hacking (just move the whole category to here with its sub-categories) - Development Tutorials - RuneScape 317 - Advertisement - Projects - Tutorials/Snippets - Help - Client Releases - Server Releases (can be combined into one but I don't recommend because this revision has just as many customized clients as it does servers) - Configurations - RuneScape HD(503+) - Advertisement - Projects - Tutorials/Snippets - Help - Downloads - Configurations Anything else can be posted in the category itself which also acts as a forum
