WEBSITE SUGGESTION

Hi,

Runelocus's website is what has led to it's demise.

Problems:

  • The theme of the website/logo/forum is simple and clean. While it is nice it doesn't suit the RSPS theme.
  • The website looks so messy
    • There are no borders around any of the posts and it just generally looks as if there's no css script
    • There are just a bunch of blocks that are just placed there in bold colours which completely ruins the flow of the template
    • Menubar is way too thick
  • Revision search tool is useless

Solutions:

  • I suggest you just design the whole layout or just buy a professional one but make sure it has that medieval look.
  • Delete a lot of the specific tools and focus on have the main areas perfect

I really like this website template:http://preview.themeforest.net/item/gravity-coming-soon-under-construction/full_screen_preview/8875822

If you could somehow incorporate this kind of layout into your new theme I think it would look amazing

That template is pretty far away from medieval. There is work to do, like updating the forum software to fix a lot of annoyances that currently exist. I personally don't even use the theme, I much prefer light themes and use the default IPB one. Medieval themes will look much more messy. We used to have one in the past.

The only things that bug me at the moment is:

  • outdated forum software (several versions behind)
  • unparsed bbcode in old posts
  • no shoutbox

the bbcode ruins a lot of content on runelocus, the shoutbox made the forum look alive, the software had its flaws back in the day, a lot of them have been fixed today.

Before replying to my posts please take the time to read them.

Forums are only one component of this site, all other components are part of the website/template. While there may be slight problems with the forums I think the website should be prioritised.

I did take the time to read your post. You had suggestions for the website, and I explained to you what is wrong with the website, the forum being a part of that website. I suppose you are right, Runelocus' main feature is the toplist and perhaps the tools. I'm pretty sure they are the top priority anyways.

Correct me if I'm wrong, @Ikiliki, but I do believe our website (not forums) traffic has not dropped that much. It's really just the forums that are dead, and they died after we upgraded to broken IPB. I say broken because who the fuck thought a WYSIWYG editor was a good idea? And no index shoutbox? WTF. Really, though. The forum traffic dropped significantly after we switched forum software.

I don't really know what to say. Honestly, the forum basically went from dead to even more dead after the switch of forum software. The general website traffic dropped a little too in the past months seeing as the scene is dying, but it isn't something to be afraid of though.

As for the forum though. We're missing some neat features such as a shoutbox because we're behind on some IPS updates. I've contacted IPS today to see if they can help me on that, because there seems to be some kind of conflict when doing the updates and I can't seem to figure out what's going on.

As for the design suggestions, I honestly don't feel like listening to the community about the design of the website any longer. Feel free to come up with input for forum designs though. The reason I don't listen to design suggestions for the general website any longer is simply because people don't know better. I respect your words, "While it is nice it doesn't suit the RSPS theme", but things just don't work like that. It's not just about having a nice fancy look, but it's also about having traffic and keeping the traffic on the website and have them visit certain pages. We've had extremely nice designs that pretty much no RSPS has managed to accomplish so far yet, but it did all but good. Traffic drop, average time per visit drop, etc.. That's not what we need. The current theme may seem really simply and boring, but I must say, the way the visitors use the site now is better than the previous four designs. In case you wonder how I know: I'm monitoring it all. Scrolling, button clicks, etc., it's all being recorded :-)
