1. I need to make a gratuity calculator. This is what I have to do: Design a Tips class that calculates the gratuity on a restaurant meal. Its only class member variable, taxRate, should be set by a one-parameter constructor to whatever rate is passed to it when a Tips object is created. If no argument is passed, a default tax rate of .065 should be used. The class should have just one public function, computeTips. This function needs to accept two arguments, the total bill amount and the tip rate. It should use this information to compute what the cost of the meal was before the tax was added. It should then apply the tip rate to just the meal cost portion of the bill to compute and return the tip amount. Demonstrate the class by creating a program with a single Tips object, then loops multiple times to allow the program user to retrieve the correct tip amount using various bill totals and desired tip rates. This has to be coded in C++ This is the start of the program that I was given:
// Project 6 Gratuity Calculator // This program utilizes a Tips class to calculate the gratuity on // a restaurant meal, using whatever tip percent the patron desires. #include <iostream> #include <iomanip> using namespace std; //prototypes go here class Tips { private: float //variable to hold the tax rate public: Tips(float rate) // Constructor that accepts a tax rate { // or uses a default value of 6.5% if (rate >= 0) taxRate = rate; else taxRate = .065; } double computeTip(double, double); }; /*********************************************************** * Tips::computeTip * * This public class member function computes and returns * * the correct tip amount based on a restaurant bill and * * the percentage a patron wishes to tip. * ***********************************************************/ double Tips::computeTip(double totalBill, double tipRate) { double mealCost = <calculate meal cost without tax> double tipAmount = <calculate the amount of tip to leave> return tipAmount; } //********************** Client program ********************* int main() { //variables char // Compute another tip (Y/N)? float //holds the user input for the tax rate float //amount of tip to leave float //the total amount of the meal including tax float // % tip the user wants to leave // Input and validate the tax rate // Convert from % to decimal // **** Create a Tips object with the correct tax rate **** Tips tipHelper(taxRate); // Begin main processing loop do { cout << "\n\n\n************* Tip Helper *********** \n\n"; // Place function call to input and validate the total bill amount // Place function call to input and validate the desired tip percentage // Place function call to convert tip rate from percentage to decimal // Call the Tips class computeTip function to compute the tip amount tipAmt = tipHelper.computeTip(totalBill, tipRate); // Place function call to display the result // Place function call to ask if the user wants to calculate another tip? } while (<put condition here>); return 0; }
I'm not completely sure of what to do.
  2. So just about finished my first java program ever, and i basically made a virtual dicer based off of RS's 60x2 game using Eclipse, i just want some criticism on how its written, what could i have done better? Are there easier/cleaner ways of doing what i have done? etc etc. i am really really new to java. insight welcome! 5. Hello RL community, I don't know if this is in the wrong category (probably is) or whatever, but I'm interested in learning Java and I want to expand my programming knowledge through Runescape Private Servers, so I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of what I should do? I know a fair amount of Python and so I was wondering if anyone knew of any (free) e-books that taught the basics of java or anything like that, also if anyone would recommend good RSPS sources (with clients) that have simple projects like touch-ups that will help me in learning the language. All tips are welcome!! (The end goal here is to preferably change a Runescape Private Server that already has a pretty good base into something unique that people will enjoy while I learn Java and how RSPS's work.) Thanks to anyone who helps! :) EDIT: and yes, at the prefix suggests, I would like to start on a 317!
  6. Hey guys, I am currently gather data off of the "Server-Help" and "Client-Help" boards from here, and deciding to make a huge tutorial program for all newbie/new-comers to download and learn all they need to know about 317 servers to get them started. I am not even 1% close to done, but I would like to see everyone's opinion of this program and see how people would react to this. I am also looking for suggestions to add for the tutorials menu from what I have so far. Thanks for anyone who does; here are two pictures of what basically what its going to be: Main-Menu (when the program is opened): And here are the current tutorials I will be coding in: (Please send in suggestions so I know what else would be useful) Like I said, I am no where near done. Not even 1% so this will not be out for a while, but I will keep you updated on what I have left and also how close I am to finished! Hope this will help out people, and please leave your feedback :)!! Update Status:
Finished Main Menu Finished Tutorials Page Design Finished "Downloading Java" tutorial
7. These are a bunch of eBooks that I've accumulated with tutorials to programming Java, C++, C#, and maybe Python? Not 100% but I know they are MOSTLY Java and C++. Great eBooks (tutorials, whatever you want to call it) for beginners, experts, or those looking for a refresher. Enjoy. Size: 185.2MB https://mega.co.nz/#!wsMS2TSA!XBfuVzIPDsYcuyD5DghzPHquQPphuwGgBomaUWojzG8 Let me get some feedback please? I'll be happy to make another pack with more eBooks, more languages, and more in-depth books. (10 thanks for another?) Support me? Click this link to show your thanks! 8. Then I suggest you try http://www.CodeHS.com. I've been heavily involved in the program for the past two week and it has already taught me LOADS of stuff. Things from
//This teaches "Karel" to jump over hurdles and end up at the end of the world even if they are already generated. function start(){ for(var i = 0; i < 13; i++){ if(frontIsClear()){ move(); }else{ jumpHurdle(); } } } function jumpHurdle(){ turnLeft(); move(); turnRight(); move(); turnRight(); move(); turnLeft(); } function moveUp(){ move(); move(); } function stop(){ turnAround(); turnAround(); }
To stuff like
Create a set that contains the vowels {"a", "e", "i", "o", "u"}Then, let the user input letters using readLine and print whether each letter they enter is a vowel or not. If a letter is in the set, then the letter is a vowel. Let the user continue to input numbers until they type the SENTINEL, which is a blank line. Here is a sample run: Letter: a Vowel Letter: g Not a vowel Letter: z Not a vowel Letter:
and even
Overview Write a program that reads an integer from the user and then prints the Hailstone sequence starting from that number. "What is the hailstone sequence?" you might ask. Well, there are two rules.

If n is even, then divide it by 2.
If n is odd, then multiply it by 3 and add 1.
Continue this sequence until you hit one.Concepts For this program, you need to know loops, functions, parameters, and the modulus operator. Difficulty: (5/10) If the user starts at 7, you should print: Output Enter number: 17175226134020105168421It took 12 steps to complete.
The program starts with very, very simple functions and problems to solve. Such as "Write a program to move Karel to the tennis ball and pick it up.". All the way to actual game development. http://codehs.com/demos/helicopter By the time you get to a difficult exercise, they have already explained thoroughly and have showed you examples on how to solve a similar problem, and then letting you try writing the program. This is the perfect stepping stone for anybody looking to further there knowledge and/or tone there skill. I HIGHLY recommend it.
  9. I've been curious as to why everyone does what they do, whether it's learning or developing under a professional atmosphere. Some do it for the money, some do it to ensure their futures, I'm just curious as to what you personally do. Discuss!
  10. RANSOM

    Starting to Program.

    Well, first off hello. I'm only new to programming, well hell this is going to be my first time. Well I need someone to help me code a basic server, and give me tips on how it works and such, so basically a one on one live tutorial sort of thing. preferably revision 718/719.

  14. Well guys, I just came up with a GREAT idea for a program that will help people make RSPS's, I am too much of a noob to make this myself, but if anyone would like to have a go at my idea, PM me. I would like 25% credit (at least) for it, I WILL be taking screenies etc. To prove that the idea is mine and so nobody steals it (screenies of PM's that is) I can assure anyone that this is a good idea, and will be great for someone to use to make an RSPS! ;););););)
  15. First off, I would like to say that this has nothing to do with any developments I have done to my server. The reason I'm posting this in this section is because this topic has to do with developing a server.This topic will help make running a server with your Staff and Owners so much easier, communicate so much better, and benefit dramatically from it. I believe this program is a necessity for these forums and your server for you and your Staff which is the reason why I am posting this in the Server Development section, because this will help people a lot in developing their server. Moving on; Does somebody you know co-own a server with you? Do you have a second Owner with your server that you want them to have access to the server and its files so they can change and edit things too but you can't because it's all from your computer? Does someone host your server and whenever you want to update it, you have to send them your files? You can say goodbye to those problems with this godsend program. The program is called 'DropBox'. Here was my problem. I own a server named UniversalScape with a guy named Dillon. Dillon and I always encountered problems when I wasn't online. One problem was if somebody swore on my game, he couldn't check the chat logs. If someone swore in ::yell, he couldn't check the yell logs. If there was a bug or glitch or a mistyped word in the game, he couldn't edit to fix it. With DropBox, it fixed absolutely all of our problems. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ok, so I keep talking about this program called DropBox. What does it do? It basically shares any files you choose on your computer with someone else on their computer. Any changes YOU make to those files, automatically update and change on the other person's computer. Any changes THEY make to those files, automatically update and change on your computer. Not only can these be accessed from yours and his computer, but the files will also be available on your DropBox account on the internet. If my Co-Owner wanted to change our login message from "Welcome to UniversalScape." to "Welcome to ~UniversalScape~.", he will have the ability to open up the client class, change the text, save, exit, and compile. When he does that, those changes will take effect to my computer immediately after the change. Anything they delete will be deleted from your computer also, but may be recovered at ANY TIME from your DropBox account via internet. Anything they add to that folder will also be added to your folders and your computer. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ So you probably get the idea and gist of it now, but how can this help me? If you, the original owner, is not online and the Co-Owner is, he'll have the ability to do things such as check chat logs, check ban logs, and any other logs you may have, edit the server, edit character files, manually ban or IP ban a player, and very importantly, un-IP ban players, which I KNOW is an issue with some people. This may also take some stress off the original owner because he wouldn't be in charge of absolutely everything. Of course, this is all on a trust level, meaning you would need your Co-Owner's trust before attempting to share your files and give him/her so much power. This is also perfect if you have someone who hosts your server for you. Instead of sending them the files every time you want your server updated, this can all be done and you don't even need to bother telling the hoster about the changes. You may just do it and be done with it. Of course, you may need to tell him to restart the server, but that's pretty much it. No more uploading them to the internet or sending them through Skype/AIM/MSN etc. every time you want the server updated. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Will they have access to any other files on my computer? Once you have downloaded the DropBox program, a folder is created on your computer named 'My Dropbox'. Any files you want them to have access to can be placed in that folder and any other files on your computer WILL be safe and cannot be harmed at all. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ What happens if my Co-Owner decides he wants to run the server from his computer? If that's the case and he turns it on, all that would change is the IP. All the files and characters will be connected to the server being ran on his computer. Let's say Person 1's IP is 12.345.678.90 and Person 2's IP is If Person 1, who is the Owner, runs the server and players log in with his IP, then he decides to turn his off and let Player 2, the Co-Owner run the server for a little bit, then the players logging in would have to use the IP, rather than 12.345.678.90. Since the files that run the server are all coming from the same source, then the player's character will not change or reset at all. It would almost act like a second world. You may, at times though, come upon files being created what are called 'Conflicted files' in your character folder. These are perfectly harmless and cannot effect the server at all. Just simply delete these files and move on. This would also be good if the Owner would love to take a break from running the server for a little bit and let the Co-Owner run it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ I, myself, believe this program is ABSOLUTELY 110% needed on these forums. More experienced coders could help the less experienced coders way more and more efficiently, rather than using TeamViewer which is very messy and slow in my opinion. If a friend wanted to help out another friend and didn't want to be bothered to leave his house to help his friend on his computer, it can all just be done straight from his computer. I believe this program can help revolutionize the way server-owning is done and can also be very beneficial for these forums, as I have stated above. Again, I do understand that there has been no server development done in this topic, but I believe that this program should be a requirement in developing your server, which is why, again, I have posted this in the server development section because I want EVERYONE to know about this wonderful, stable, well-known, perfectly safe program and how it DOES benefit with your server and developing it. I Thinks This should be stickied so that others can benefit from it. Download Link: http://db.tt/YbFtKanD If you want anymore, clear information about this program, please see a video here: www.getdropbox.com/screencast Other than that if you have any other questions about this program, please feel free to post any here or PM me. I ask you to. I would love to answer any questions about this program. I hope you enjoy! Happy developing! Credits: I take no credits for this program, as I have not made it, nor am I involved with it. I give 100% credits to the company 'Dropbox' (© 2009 Dropbox) If I take any credit at all, it would be me typing this up and explaining about this wonderful program

  21. Hi, i'm trying to learn how to program java, basically to start out just RSPSing. I don't want to learn anything that doesn't involve RSPSing. I know this might sound lazy but I will learn in small steps and work my way up. http://www.thenewboston.com/?cat=36&pOpen=tutorial I ask you to look @ the video titles and make a list of the video number on what is necessary for me to learn.
