The department of education only serves to soak up money and get between students and teachers. Ask any teacher about how education has changed since No Child Left Behind came into being. The Department of Education came into existence in 1980, other countries surpassed the United States by a long shot in Math and Science scores. What does the Department of Education do? Oh we'll just lower the standards to pass
No Child Left Behind was an act of George Bush, I agree the public education system is a failure, mainly because of what Bush did to it, still, as long as schooling remains a goverment institution you can assure people are going to be learning facts and not myth. This being said, let's face it, this generation of Americans are dumb, education was fine until bush passed the NCLB act.
Getting Rid of the board of Education and getting rid of education are two totally different things, he wants the Government out of state issues and the Government downsized every time an empire has fallen it can probably be traced to their Government getting to big. To insult me questioning if i'm "competent enough" to decipher the difference is very immature. State what needs to be stated clearly this is a debate remember. Which still leaves the fact that getting rid of Education is getting rid of schools and the availability of teachers and facilities to the population as a whole, much different than abolishing the Board of Education. I've never said that any president has kept all the promises, nor did I ridicule president Obama for not doing so, but their are some major promises that must be kept especially since those promises contribute to a large reason (other than being African American) of him being elected president. I don't see what's wrong with his voting, he's voting constitutional for smaller central government and unnecessary spending that got us this Almost $15 trillion debt, including voting No for everything about the Iraq and Afghanistan war.
The Department of Education is there for a reason, so people can't start teaching what they want, there are guidelines to prevent EG: Creationism from being taught as fact. The government should play a role in the education of its citizens.
I thank my opponent for his rebuttal, I will present my second argument (I'm assuming this is a 3 round debate?) Let me first start off by opposing This statement I agree, statistics were bound to rise but $4 trillion dollars? That's unacceptable, it's contributed from Years and years of reckless spending I agree. However I think my opponent fails to realize that Democrats held the majority of seats in both House of Representatives and the Senate, Democrats (Yes, Obama was a Democrat in the Senate) If you're going to brush it off as just spending by congress before Obama, well Sen. Obama should be to blame for it too being part of the majority. In addition extending the many of President Bush's policies as well as subjectively failing to withhold many of the promises he stated on the campaign trail I've stated some of them in my introductory argument I will elaborate further if need be. I suppose my opponent didn't read my Introductory argument, Under President George W. Bush the US-Iraq Status of Forces Agreement was signed which concluded that all U.S Forces were to be withdrawn from Iraq by December 31, 2011. This is the reason why we're withdrawing, did he withdraw anywhere near 16 months like he promised? Nope, did he add 50,000+ troops to Afghanistan? Yes sir he did. I'm not trying to "belittle" anyone, I'm trying to present my beliefs in a professional manor if you think of it as belittling I'm sorry you feel that way. My opponents 3rd subject in his argument had me very disappointed at the amount of ignorance. Ron Paul doesn't want to "get rid of taxes" it's impossible, that's how the government makes money he has never stated nor supported getting rid of taxes lol. Ron Paul believes in abolishing the IRS, now you might say ABOLISH!? Yes, the whole purpose of the American Government as it was founded was to have a Small central government and state power. Cutting income taxes (Which were not mandated until 1913) would give you as much revenue as you had about a decade ago. You don't need an income tax there are hundreds of other ways taxes can be collected (Highways, Tariffs, etc, etc, etc). He wants to get rid of the Federal Government involvement in the Education system, my opponent ignorantly states "Get rid of education." You don't get rid of Education you get rid of the BOARD OF EDUCATION which is a government run department. I've seen it first hand teachers and Administrators are more worried of meeting Federal regulations than actually teaching the kids, the schools are over crowded, the curriculum doesn't work, it's a mess. If you want to read up on his educational beliefs I have some very insightful sources you should take a look at. You do realize that politicians don't use teleprompters I'm sure he writes his own speeches but think of all the greatest speeches in the world delivered without teleprompters, Newt Gingrich said "I will debate you, AND your teleprompter" This is quoted from a previous debate of mine on this forum about the Gold Standard issue so sorry if some of the content is irrelevant He doesn't want us to go to the gold standard he wants Gold and Silver to be able to compete AS currency, he's been a huge advocate of audits of Fort Knox's gold which have been denied since the 70's, why? It is our gold what is the government covering up. I don't see how you think that is a very bad thing? The dollar is based on a trust system that our Government will be here tomorrow the dollar is decreasing in value every single year. Also I don't think you realize that the FEDERAL RESERVE is a privatized bank, did you? It's not federally owned. Gold and Silver being COMPETING currency. Here is a video that talks a little more about Ron Paul's views on the gold and silver competing You just described Ron Paul 100% Lol. You REALLY need to read up on him instead of listening to anti-republican websites. Actually listen to him speak. He is totally Anti-war unless it directly affects our homeland (I.E: Invasion) he is 100% for keeping national interests he has 100% record of voting No to bills that are "unconstitutional." He supports a form of Isolationism but keeping economic ties, Ron Paul is a Libertarian and an Independent CodeUSA he is running as a Republican because he wouldn't stand a chance running as Independent. Sorry to drag this on I'll close it up here and elaborate more on my points once my opponent has made his rebuttal.
When one states "get rid of education" I thought you could put board and education together. My apologize for think you were competent enough. Please do tell me, when as any presidential nominee ever keep all their promises? I'm a tad busy & can't reply thoroughly, so I'll say this. I don't go to anti republican websites, mostly I just looked at his voting record. http://www.issues2000.org/tx/Ron_Paul.htm I'm not impressed.
One question, what has he really done to help our country? His actions aren't fulfilled by his words.
I'd like to present to you, facts! http://whatthefuckhasobamadonesofar.com/
I won't get into a long debate (right now) I don't have the time. Your post said state 1 valid reason Obama shouldn't be reelected... I'll do one better I'll list 5 very brief points. The National Debt has increased $4,000,000,000,000, it is the most rapid increase in National debt under any president. At the peak height the Unemployment reached about 10.1%. It rests now at 8.6% and studies say it could be even higher than that. No President since FDR has won a reelection with unemployment above 7% (Bush's unemployment in his 8 years wasn't even that high). I do remember President Obama's words on his campaign "First thing I will do in office is to bring the troops home, 16 months all will be home... We are still in Iraq and he even ordered 50,000 more troops into Afghanistan. Then he proceeds to go on Television and address the state saying by December 31, 2011 all troops will effectively be out of Iraq. That's great, only that Obama failed to mention that the Policy that allowed him to do this was the US-Iraq Status of Forces Agreement which was signed under former President George Bush. Not to mention his Penalties on 401K recipients who withdrawn money that was taken out of early retirement having as much as 30-40% of it cut in taxes. I don't dislike President Obama don't get me wrong, I don't think that he is the worst president that we've ever had (by far). I just don't agree with him, the man is a brilliant speaker (with a teleprompter) and I'm sure he can convince the American people to start buying used condoms from how well he can speak, I just don't believe in him anymore I was rooting for him in the last leg of the 2008 Campaign actually.
You do realize the economy was already failing correct? All the statics were going to rise, he came into office during a down slope, you can't blame him for years of fuck ups by both parties. Things change, and the last time I checked all troops are being brought home from Iraq & Afghanistan, at least he didn't get us into the war. Signed under president bush, written by Democrats, stop trying to belittle him. Also those penalties have been in place since Regan, at least Obama doesn't want to get rid of taxes such as Ron Paul, at least he doesn't want to get rid of Education, at least he doesn't think it be a good idea to ban abortion, to inflict his personal beliefs on others (who doesn't use a teleprompter by the way, he writes his speeches, you can't expect him to remember them word for word) I don't want a president who thinks the gold standard is the way to go. I want a president who can talk, isn't dragging us into wars, isn't destroying are national interest & defense. Can keep allies, can keep us out of fights & more importantly, keep the Republicans out of the white house. I want Obama.

 11.
Dude is turning his campaign into more of a joke than it already is.... Ron Paul 2012.
Last time I checked Ron Paul is just as bad Obama 2012, save us from the republicans!
 12.
First of all, protesters wouldn't matter at all, let alone be a factor. The Occupy Movements aren't even a scratch of what needs to be done to truly cleanse this government. What really matters is what the Supreme Court says and let's all hope they aren't corrupt otherwise I'm moving to Canada.
Theres a reason the Occupy Movement hasn't done anything, not only do they have no demands, no leader. They're just laying around screaming & think they're entitled to money because their Art degree can't get them anything
